Early Morning Nature Session
Lake Leatherwood Park is a 1600-acre municipal park surrounding an 85 acre spring fed lake. Located at the western edge of Eureka Springs, it is a place of natural serenity. Lake Leatherwood is formed by one of the largest hand-cut native limestone dams in the country. The dam and several structures at the park were built in the early 1940s by the WPA. Lake Leatherwood Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The park is a natural habitat for a diverse population of water fowl and other birds, including heron, geese, bald eagles and wild turkey. The woodlands surrounding the lake support many species of wildlife. We will drive the short distance to Lake Leatherwood in order to get some early morning landscape and nature images. Be advised that you will miss breakfast, and we can arrange for some breakfast bars to be supplied to the participants. We will leave the Eureka Springs Confernece Center parking lot at 7:45 am - arriving at Lake Leatherwood around 8;00 am. We will leave Lake Leatherwood by 9:30am to ensure we return in time for the remaining MAPSym sessions at the conference center.
