[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]MAPSym attendees, join us at Jack Rabbitt’s Whiskey Bar for an evening social. A chance to play some pool and get to know fellow photographers in town for the symposium.
MAPSym will provide a complimentary first drink to start off your night. Check-in at the MAPSym table to receive your MAPSym 2023 button and drink token, then look for other photographers wearing the MAPSym button. Always remember to have your camera nearby, as there always seems to be something to photograph in downtown Eureka Springs.
Jack Rabbitt’s Whiskey Bar may serve some of the best cocktails in Eureka Springs, but also has a history that goes back to the Al Capone family. The story goes, despite the temperance movement and even the 18th Amendment (prohibition), liquor sales continued to thrive thanks to the local bootlegging industry. Joe Parkhill of Cicero, Illinois — and a neighbor of Al Capone — took over the hotel in 1944. Guests would ride the train from Chicago to Monett and then the hotel’s shuttle bus down to Eureka. For 11 years, the hotel was humming with activity. Parkhill eventually hired Jack James Rabbett as a night manager. One night in 1951 during the Barefoot Ball, the hotel was raided by Carroll County Sheriff Erton “DeWeasel” Deweese for “operating a bar and selling intoxicating liquors without a license”. According to a local newspaper, Parkhill was arrested along with John Doe and Jack Rabbit (sic). The hotel was sold back to the previous owner, Claude Fuller. However, when the hotel regulars would ask, “what happened to Jack?”, they were told that, “Jack disappeared into “The Rabbett hole”! Today, visitors can enjoy a “taste of history” by visiting Jack Rabbett’s Whiskey Bar, without the fear of “DeWeasel” crashing through the door.
You must be 21 or older with a valid ID to enter Jack Rabbett’s Whiskey Bar.
