Night Photography with Brennen Duffield & Hal Mitzenmacher
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Looking for a fun and unique photo opportunity while at MAPSym? Join talented night photographers Brennen and Hal, Friday, May 5, for a fun evening of photographing Beaver Bridge and the reflectins of the full moon across the white river. We will gather during the MAPSym Mixer at Jack Rabbitt’s to provide a map to the bridge and answer any questions.
Arkansas’ only suspension bridge, built in 1943, the Beaver Bridge is often called the “Golden Gate of the Ozarks.” This historic swinging bridge is the last one in Arkansas open to vehicular traffic and is truly a bridge of nostalgia. The structure was featured in the 2005 movie, “Elizabethtown.”
This historic one-lane suspension bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Located just a few miles from Eureka Springs, it offeres a great long exposure image while cars pass over in the night. Be sure to bring a tripod and camera shutter release for long exposures.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_color=”om-accent-color-1″]Night photography can be beautiful, but it can also be challenging. Use your best judgment and make safety your first priority. Never follow anyone or enter an area you are not comfortable with for a picture. Take proper equipment including a flashlight or headlamp for hiking at night.
You may consider the following tips for optimizing your night movements:
- Give your eyes time to adjust to the dark.
- Avoid looking at any direct light source.
- Use a red light when possible. (Red will less adversely affect your night vision.)
- Keep your light pointed down. Never shine your light in someone’s face.
- Slow down and be observant for obstacles and small critters of the evening.
- Consider taking a hiking stick to provide a bit of extra stability.
- Avoid walking alone if uncomfortable seeing at night.
