Haute Couture is a French phrase. Couture means dressmaking, sewing, or needlework and haute means elegant or high, so the two combined imply excellent artistry with the fashioning of garments. The phrase became popularly associated as a garment that is at the top level of hand customized fashion design and clothing construction made by a couture design house. A model haute couture garment is made specifically for the wearer’s measurements and body stance. A haute couture piece would often be referred to as a “one of a kind” piece.
In photography haute couture has taken on a bit of a different meaning. As fashion houses began to compete for attention, the runway fashion show became more important. Designers began designing more elaborate customized garments never meant for actual sale as a way of drawing attention to their names in popular fashion magazines. These elaborate and often strange haute couture piece required make-up, hair and of course photographs that were as unique as the clothing the model wore.
During this fun photo shoot we will explore haute couture posing and costuming to create unique images for your portfolio.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space]
